CHRISTMAS GIFT WRAPPING - DAY 6 - GIFT BAG

CHRISTMAS GIFT WRAPPING - DAY 6 - GIFT BAG

Today we're going to be showing you how to make your very own gift bag!

Materials you need for this are:

  • Paper
  • Glue or double sided tape
  • String or ribbon
  • Ruler
  • Pen or pencil
  • Accessories (optional)

We used a creamy textured paper to make our gift bag, you can use any paper you like but we'd recommended going for something heavier than standard printing paper.

Step 1: Mark out the lengths of the front, side, back and another side of the bag, leaving additional space of one extra side - this will be used to glue down your bag. Make a note of how wide the sides is for later.

Step 2: Fold the marks you just made.

Step 3: Fold the extra side down, apply glue or double sided tape then fold the paper in half securing it in place.

Step 4: Measure out the bottom of the bag. To measure out the width, take the measurement for bag sides from earlier, and choose a number between that size to half of that size.

For example, our side measured 5cm, so we should measure a bottom between 2.5-5cm - we chose to do 4cm.

Step 5: Fold the bottom up to create a crease line, bring it back down and tuck in the sides.

Step 6: Fold up the corners in a triangle shape, then unfold them and tuck them in.

Step 7: Fold down one of the flaps, apply glue or tape then fold the second flap on top of the first. Turn the bag upright and flatten out the bottom making sure everything is secure.

Step 8: Now we're going to create the top closing, to do this measure out the same length as the bottom then fold the top in half, and fold it down again.

Step 9: Measure out your string or ribbon then thread it through the fold in the top.

Step 10: From here, you can either choose to create a bow around the bag, or use the string to make a carrier handle.

We also decided to add an origami butterfly for decoration, which you can purchase here.

On December 4th we'll be hosting a gift wrapping workshop in collaboration with L.F. Markey at their East London Dalston Lane store, click here for more information on the tickets.

We'll also have a new gift wrapping tutorial video out every Friday, and other origami tutorials out every Tuesday in the run up to Christmas.
